Season ticket holders (Abonados) have guaranteed entry, and the remaining tickets go to non-season socios in a 48-hour presale window. The derby sells out during the Socios window every time. Atletico does offer an international membership (the Atleti Red & White Card) that gives presale access, but for the derby specifically, even this is unlikely to be enough - the demand is simply too high. Away fans (Real Madrid) are housed in the upper tier of a designated section with buffer zones and steward lines. The Madrid Derby is safe for tourists who are informed and use common sense. Spanish football has improved significantly in terms of stadium safety, and families attend at both grounds. That said, this is a genuinely hostile rivalry - do not wear Real Madrid colours anywhere near the Metropolitano on derby day (or Atletico colours near the Bernabeu). In hospitality sections you can be relaxed about allegiance. In regular home sections, support the home team or stay quiet. Do not take selfies in opposition colours near ultra sections. Away fans are held inside for 15-20 minutes after the final whistle to allow home supporters to clear the area. At the Bernabeu, the Santiago Bernabeu metro station gets extremely congested - consider walking to Nuevos Ministerios or Cuzco stations instead. Santiago Bernabeu and Riyadh Air Metropolitano are approximately 14 km apart, on opposite sides of Madrid. The Bernabeu is in the Chamartin district (north-central Madrid, on Metro Line 10), while the Metropolitano is in San Blas-Canillejas (east Madrid, on Metro Line 7). The derby takes place at one stadium per fixture, and central Madrid is roughly equidistant from both.
Getting to the Stadium
to bernabeu
Metro Line 10 to Santiago Bernabeu station (2-minute walk). About 10-15 minutes from central Madrid (Sol or Gran Via area). After the match, consider walking to Nuevos Ministerios station (10-minute walk, Lines 6, 8, 10) or Cuzco station (10-minute walk, Line 10) to avoid the worst congestion at the stadium stop.
to metropolitano
Metro Line 7 to Estadio Metropolitano station (5-minute walk). About 25-30 minutes from central Madrid. After the match, Las Musas station (one stop further on Line 7) is a less congested alternative. Allow extra time on derby day as the station gets very crowded.

Madrid's metro system is excellent and runs late on matchdays. Buy a Multi card and load it with journeys. On derby day, both stations serving the hosting stadium will be packed - allow 30-40 minutes extra travel time compared to a normal matchday. Do not drive. Parking near both stadiums is extremely limited and road closures around the ground are common.
