AFC Ajax Tickets & Matchday Guide
Johan Cruyff ArenA • Amsterdam2025/26 Season
How to Buy AFC Ajax Tickets
Getting tickets to see AFC Ajax doesn't have to be confusing. This guide eliminates the guesswork by showing you all available options, from official club channels to hospitality packages to resellers, with clear pros, cons, and realistic expectations for each. Whether you want face-value pricing, guaranteed entry, or are willing to pay a premium, we'll help you find the right approach for your budget and match.
Official AFC Ajax Tickets
Johan Cruyff ArenA holds 55,500 fans, and Ajax's legendary status, passionate fanbase, and regular European football mean high-demand matches sell out quickly. The good news for international visitors: most regular Eredivisie fixtures are accessible, and Ajax's English-language website makes the process straightforward.
Quick reality check for visitors:
- • Feyenoord (De Klassieker), FC Utrecht, ADO Den Haag: Classified as 'risk matches' with restricted ticket sales. Extremely difficult for tourists
- • Champions League knockout matches and PSV (De Topper): Very high demand. Club Card holders and Ajaxlife members get priority
- • Mid-table Eredivisie: Available through official channels with a Club Card. The ArenA's 55,500 capacity helps
- • Cup competitions and early European group stage: Good availability at face value through official channels
Ajax's ticketing system:
- • Tickets are sold through the official Ajax website at tickets.ajax.nl. You must create a My Ajax account and verify your identity before purchasing
- • The Club Card is a low-cost digital pass in your My Ajax account that provides access to ticket sales depending on availability. Check the Ajax website for current pricing
- • Ajaxlife membership (the Ajax Supporters Association) gives higher priority than a standard Club Card. Members get access before Club Card holders
- • International fans without a Dutch bank account verify their identity through Mitek by scanning their passport with their phone camera
How the ticket sale process works:
- • Season ticket holders get first access to every home match
- • Ajaxlife members receive the next priority window through the Ajax Supporters Association
- • Club Card holders can purchase after Ajaxlife members, depending on remaining availability
- • General sale opens last, for matches that still have capacity. For big matches, tickets are often gone before this stage
Important for international visitors:
- • You must verify your identity before purchasing. International fans use Mitek (passport scan) rather than the Dutch iDIN bank verification
- • The official website is fully available in English at english.ajax.nl/fans/tickets
- • Risk matches (Feyenoord, FC Utrecht, ADO Den Haag) have restricted sales. It is very difficult for tourists to obtain tickets for these fixtures through official channels
- • E-tickets and mobile tickets are standard. Have your confirmation ready on your phone
Ajax Ticket Strategy
- A Club Card is the single best investment for visiting Ajax. It is a low-cost digital pass that unlocks ticket purchases for most Eredivisie matches
- De Klassieker (vs Feyenoord) is classified as a risk match with tickets restricted to members with strong attendance history. Hospitality or marketplaces are the only realistic route for international visitors
- The F-Side (rows 125-129) produces the best atmosphere but is dominated by regulars. Try adjacent sectors for atmosphere with better availability
AFC Ajax Official Hospitality & Packages

- Book well in advance for European nights. Even hospitality sells out for Ajax's marquee home matches
AFC Ajax Ticket Marketplaces
Secondary market platforms with availability when official channels sell out. For risk matches (Feyenoord, FC Utrecht, ADO Den Haag), Champions League, and PSV fixtures, these platforms are often the most practical option for international visitors.
Ticket resale platforms operate independently of AFC Ajax and Matchday Guide. Clubs reserve the right to refuse entry for unauthorized tickets. All purchases are at your own risk. We recommend choosing vendors with buyer protection and checking ratings on Trustpilot.
LiveFootballTickets.com
Specialized football platform with 150% money-back guarantee and transparent pricing focused on European matches.
Browse Tickets →StubHub
Large global marketplace with strong buyer guarantee. Good inventory for Ajax matches including Eredivisie and European fixtures, with straightforward mobile ticket delivery.

- Ajax uses identity verification for all ticket purchases. Ensure your marketplace can handle name matching or provides proper documentation

View Hotel →Amsterdam Hotel Strategy for Ajax Matches
- The Zuidoost district near the ArenA is convenient for the match but is a modern entertainment area, not classic Amsterdam. For canals, museums, and nightlife, stay in the city centre or Museum Quarter instead
- The city centre (Dam Square, Centraal) offers the best all-round Amsterdam experience. Metro Line 54 runs directly to the ArenA in about 25 minutes
- Book 2-3 months ahead for Champions League and De Klassieker weekends. Amsterdam hotels are expensive, especially during peak season (April to October)
Getting to Johan Cruyff ArenA
The ArenA is exceptionally well connected by both metro and train, with Station Bijlmer ArenA serving as the gateway to the stadium. The station is a 5-minute walk from the ground. Both metro and national rail services stop here, making it accessible from anywhere in the Netherlands.
Metro Line 54 (Recommended) (GVB Metro)
• Station Bijlmer ArenA
5-7 minute walk to stadium gates | Metro Line 54, Metro Line 50 | The main station for the ArenA. Exit, turn left at the bottom of the escalator, pass the Pathe cinema on your left and MediaMarkt on your right. The ArenA is directly ahead. Follow the crowds on matchdays.
Journey time: Around 20-25 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal via Metro Line 54
Frequency: Every 10-15 minutes. Enhanced services on matchdays.
Cost: Standard GVB fare. Use OV-chipkaart or contactless payment.
Tips:
- Metro Line 54 runs directly from Amsterdam Centraal to Station Bijlmer ArenA. No changes required
- After the match, the station gets very crowded. Consider waiting 15-20 minutes for the crowds to thin, or walk to the adjacent train station for NS services
Train (NS) (NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen))
• Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA
5-7 minute walk to stadium (same station complex as metro) | NS Intercity and Sprinter services | The NS train station is part of the same station complex as the metro. Regular Intercity and Sprinter trains connect to Amsterdam Centraal and other Dutch cities. Often faster than the metro for getting to and from the ArenA.
Journey time: 10-15 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal by Sprinter/Intercity
Frequency: Multiple services per hour throughout the day.
Cost: Standard NS fare. OV-chipkaart or single ticket.
Tips:
- The train is often faster than the metro from Centraal station (10-15 minutes vs 20-25 minutes)
- Useful if you are coming from other Dutch cities like Utrecht, Rotterdam, or The Hague on matchday. Direct trains run to Bijlmer ArenA
Matchday Traditions & Atmosphere
Pre-Match Build-Up
The Arena Boulevard surrounding the Johan Cruyff ArenA transforms on matchdays as fans stream in from Station Bijlmer ArenA. Red-and-white scarves fill the walkways, food vendors serve bitterballen (fried meat ragout balls) and kroketten (croquettes), and the bars along the boulevard fill up hours before kickoff. Many fans gather at BLVD020 directly at the stadium or at Cafe Johan inside the ArenA itself, while others pre-game in central Amsterdam at pubs around Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein before taking the metro. The walk from the station to the stadium is a straight 5-minute route through the entertainment district, and the buzz builds with every step.
Inside the ArenA
The F-Side, founded on 3 October 1976, is Ajax's most famous supporter group, situated behind the goal in rows 125-129 on the southern end of the stadium. They orchestrate the chants, wave giant flags, and create the atmosphere that defines big nights at the ArenA. VAK410, another influential ultra group founded in 2001, dissolved in 2016 after disagreements with Ajax management, but their legacy of beautiful choreographies and anti-commercialization protests remains part of Ajax's supporter identity. The signature moment comes near the end of every match when the entire stadium sings Bob Marley's 'Three Little Birds,' a tradition that started spontaneously in 2008 when Ajax fans were held back after a match at Cardiff City and the stadium DJ played the song. Since then, it has become Ajax's unofficial anthem, sung at every match regardless of the score.
De Klassieker (vs Feyenoord)
The rivalry between Ajax and Feyenoord is the defining fixture of Dutch football, rooted in the historic city rivalry between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The cultural narrative pits the 'artists of Amsterdam' against the 'workers of Rotterdam,' reflecting deeper social and economic differences between the two cities. Both clubs have won the European Cup (Feyenoord in 1970, Ajax in 1971, 1972, and 1973), and Johan Cruyff's controversial transfer from Ajax to Feyenoord in 1983 added another layer of intensity. De Klassieker is classified as a risk match, meaning ticket sales are heavily restricted and security is heightened.
The Cruyff Legacy
The stadium was renamed from Amsterdam ArenA to Johan Cruyff ArenA in 2018, two years after the death of the greatest Dutch footballer of all time. Cruyff won three Ballons d'Or (1971, 1973, 1974), scored 257 goals in 329 Ajax matches, and was the on-field embodiment of Total Football, the revolutionary philosophy developed by coach Rinus Michels at Ajax in the late 1960s. Total Football was built on player versatility, ball possession, and fluid attacking play where any player could occupy any position on the pitch. Ajax's identity remains rooted in this philosophy: technical skill, youth development from the De Toekomst academy ('The Future'), and attractive attacking football. Generations of stars from Marco van Basten to Dennis Bergkamp to Frenkie de Jong have carried this tradition forward.
Post-Match
After the final whistle and one last chorus of 'Three Little Birds,' fans stream back toward Station Bijlmer ArenA. The station can be congested for 20-30 minutes as 55,000 fans funnel toward the metro and trains. NS train services from Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA connect to Amsterdam Centraal in about 10-15 minutes, while Metro Line 54 takes around 20-25 minutes. Many fans head into central Amsterdam for dinner and nightlife, with Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein, and the Jordaan all popular post-match destinations.
Visitor Tips
- Arrive at least 60-90 minutes early for big matches. The ArenA boulevard has good bars and food, making early arrival enjoyable rather than just practical
- Stay for 'Three Little Birds' at the end of the match. 55,000 people singing Bob Marley in unison is one of the great moments in European football
- The ArenA has a retractable roof. On cold or rainy matchdays the roof is closed, trapping the noise inside and amplifying the atmosphere
Pre-Match Bars for Ajax Matches
The ArenA sits in Amsterdam Zuidoost, a modern entertainment district rather than a traditional pub neighbourhood. The immediate stadium area has bars on the Arena Boulevard and inside the ArenA itself. Many Ajax fans also pre-game in central Amsterdam at pubs around Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein before taking the metro to the ground. Dutch pre-match culture features bitterballen, kroketten, and plenty of beer.

Cafe Johan

Three Sisters Pub
City centre (Rembrandtplein), 25-minute metro ride to stadium
Atmosphere: English pub, Multiple TV screens, Lively
A classic English-style pub at Rembrandtplein in central Amsterdam with capacity for about 200 people, Chesterfield armchairs, bar seating, and more than 20 TVs for watching sport. Good food menu available. A popular gathering point for football fans before heading to the stadium via metro. The Rembrandtplein location puts you in the heart of Amsterdam's entertainment district.
Entry notes: Open to all. A familiar pub atmosphere for English-speaking visitors. Rembrandtplein is surrounded by bars and restaurants for a broader pre-match experience.
Satellite Sports Cafe
City centre (Leidseplein), 25-minute metro ride to stadium
Atmosphere: Sports bar, Outdoor screens, Central location
One of the best sports bars in Amsterdam, at Leidseplein. Features outdoor TV screens for up to 80 people, making it a great spot for the pre-match atmosphere even before heading to the ArenA. Leidseplein is one of Amsterdam's liveliest squares, surrounded by restaurants, bars, and the Stadsschouwburg theatre.
Entry notes: Open to all. The outdoor screens are the highlight, especially on warm matchdays. Leidseplein metro and tram connections make it easy to head to the ArenA when ready.
Pre-Match Strategy
- BLVD020 is the best option at the stadium. The self-service beer taps and south-facing terrace make it the natural gathering point for fans arriving early
- Cafe Johan inside the ArenA is a unique experience. Drink surrounded by Ajax memorabilia, then walk straight to your seat
- For a classic Amsterdam pub experience, start at Three Sisters (Rembrandtplein) or Satellite (Leidseplein) in the city centre, then take the metro to the match
