Official Atalanta BC Tickets

Face Value

The New Balance Arena holds around 21,300 fans (reduced capacity during ongoing renovation works). Unlike most Serie A clubs, Atalanta does not require a fidelity card for the majority of single match tickets - though big fixtures against top sides frequently sell out, and getting a DEA Card adds a safety net when authorities impose restrictions.

Quick reality check for visitors:
  • Champions League and top Serie A opponents (Inter, Juventus, Milan, Napoli): High demand, often subject to DEA Card restrictions. Book as early as possible or use hospitality
  • Mid-table Serie A: Usually available in general sale without a DEA Card through Vivaticket. The smaller capacity (around 21,300) means popular fixtures go quickly
  • Coppa Italia and Europa League group stage: Better availability. Good targets for first-time visitors
  • The stadium has been undergoing renovation in phases - check atalanta.it for current capacity and available sections before buying
Atalanta's ticketing system (Vivaticket):
  • Tickets are sold through Vivaticket at atalanta.vivaticket.it. This is the official ticketing platform
  • It is NOT mandatory to hold a DEA Card for single match tickets for most fixtures. This is a key advantage over many Italian clubs
  • However, for certain high-profile matches and when Italian authorities impose restrictions (which happens for derby-adjacent or high-risk fixtures), only DEA Card holders can purchase tickets
  • The DEA Card costs a small annual fee, is personal and non-transferable, and can be obtained online through the official Atalanta site at en.atalanta.it/dea-card
  • Season ticket holders (Abbonati) have reserved seats for all home league matches. Remaining tickets go on sale to DEA Card holders first, then general sale
How the ticket sale process works:
  • General sale opens a week or more before most matches. Check the match-specific ticket news on en.atalanta.it for exact dates
  • For the Curva Nord Pisani and Curva Sud Morosini sections, a DEA Card is required for online purchase - though these sections can also be bought in person at Vivaticket outlets in Bergamo province without the card
  • Italian tickets are personalized: your name is on the ticket, and ID may be checked at the gate alongside your DEA Card if you used one to purchase
  • To gain entry, bring the PDF ticket (printed or on your phone) and a valid photo ID
Important for international visitors:
  • You can buy most tickets without a DEA Card through atalanta.vivaticket.it. The process is navigable with browser translation
  • If you want full access including during restriction periods, get the DEA Card at en.atalanta.it/dea-card before your trip (allow a few days for processing)
  • A valid passport or ID is required at the gate alongside your ticket. Digital tickets are standard - have both ready on your phone
  • Ticket holders get free travel on all ATB public transport in Bergamo on matchday - show your match ticket to the driver or inspector
💡

Atalanta Ticket Strategy

  • For most Serie A matches, you can buy without a DEA Card through Vivaticket. This makes Atalanta one of the more accessible Serie A grounds for international visitors
  • Get the DEA Card anyway if you are visiting for a big fixture - it is a small fee and protects your access if restrictions are imposed. Restrictions are unpredictable and the card is the only fallback
  • Atalanta's small capacity (around 21,300 during works) means popular fixtures sell out faster than at larger Italian grounds. Book as soon as the match goes on sale

  • Italian Serie A tickets are personalized with name and ID verification at the gate. Ensure your marketplace handles name changes or provides documentation
  • Compare prices across platforms. Markups vary significantly for Champions League and Juventus fixtures
  • For Champions League home games, book as early as possible - Atalanta's small capacity means secondary market prices spike quickly

Bergamo Hotel Strategy for Atalanta Matches

  • Staying in central Bergamo (Citta Bassa) gives the best balance: ATB Bus 9 to the stadium, plus walking access to restaurants and the funicular up to Citta Alta
  • GombitHotel in Citta Alta is the most memorable Bergamo base but requires the funicular plus bus to reach the stadium - factor in extra travel time for matchdays
  • Book well in advance for Champions League home games and Juventus fixtures, when Bergamo fills up and prices spike significantly

Getting to the New Balance Arena

The New Balance Arena is in the Borgo Santa Caterina neighbourhood, about 30 minutes' walk from Bergamo's main train station. ATB Bus 9 is the recommended option for matchdays - roads around the stadium close two hours before kickoff, making the bus the only way in or out during that window. Crucially, ticket holders travel free on all ATB public transport throughout matchday.

ATB Bus 9

Recommended - Matchday Only Access

ATB (Azienda Trasporti Bergamo)

Viale G. Cesare Parco (Closest Stop)

3-minute walk to stadium gates | ATB Bus 9 | Bus 9 runs from Bergamo train station area through the city and along Via Borgo Santa Caterina directly to the stadium. The Viale G. Cesare Parco stop is the closest, roughly a 3-minute walk from the gates. Also stops at Via N. Sauro (around 7 minutes' walk). On matchdays, this is the only vehicle route allowed into the stadium area two hours before kickoff.

Journey time: Around 15-20 minutes from the train station to the stadium stops, depending on traffic.
Frequency: Frequent service, especially on matchdays. ATB add capacity for major fixtures.
Cost: Free for ticket holders - show your match ticket to the driver or inspector. Otherwise, standard ATB single ticket (check atb.bergamo.it for current fares).

Tips:

  • Show your match ticket to the driver when boarding - this gives you free travel on all ATB lines throughout matchday
  • Allow 30-40 minutes for the journey on busy matchdays. Buses fill up and can run slow close to kickoff
  • After the match, wait 5 minutes for the initial crowd to thin before queuing for the bus, or walk the first stop or two

Walking

From City Centre

On foot

Bergamo Train Station to New Balance Arena

Approximately 30-minute walk | | Via Borgo Santa Caterina runs from the lower town directly to the stadium. The walk is flat and easy to navigate. Many fans walk to the stadium via this route, stopping at bars along the way. Not recommended when roads close two hours before kickoff, as this cuts off vehicle traffic but the pavement remains open.

Journey time: Around 30 minutes on foot from the main train station.
Frequency: Walking is always an option on the approach but note the road closure window.
Cost: Free.

Tips:

  • The walk along Via Borgo Santa Caterina is pleasant and passes several bars and cafes that are popular pre-match stops
  • For the return journey after the match, walking is often faster than waiting for a packed Bus 9

Pre-Match Bars for Atalanta BC Matches

The main pre-match strip is Via Borgo Santa Caterina, which runs directly from the lower town to the stadium. Bars along this street fill up from early afternoon on matchdays. The bars closest to the stadium on Viale Giulio Cesare and around the stadium perimeter are almost exclusively home fan territory - there is no separate designated area for away supporters in most of them.

Villa Sport Cafe

Right at the stadium, corner of Viale Giulio Cesare

Atmosphere: Sports bar, Local fans, Pre-match hub

Situated at the corner of the stadium on Viale Giulio Cesare, Villa Sport Cafe is one of the most convenient pre-match stops in Bergamo. Serves food and drinks with a large outdoor seating area. Popular with local Atalanta fans, it gets very busy in the last hour before kickoff.

Entry notes: Open to all. Home fan territory - Nerazzurri colours expected. Gets very crowded in the final hour before big fixtures.

Queen's Bar

Next to the stadium, corner of Curva Sud

Atmosphere: Local bar, Matchday atmosphere, Home fans

Located at the corner of the Curva Sud and the main stand, Queen's Bar is one of the traditional Atalanta supporter pubs. A genuine local bar rather than a commercial sports pub, it is a reliable pre-match option for visiting fans who want to soak up authentic matchday atmosphere without straying far from the stadium.

Entry notes: Open to all fans, including away supporters on most occasions. Very close to the ground so gets busy quickly before kickoff.

Fuorigioco

Near the stadium, close to Curva Sud

Atmosphere: Modern bar, Local fans, Pre-match drinks

A modern bar close to Queen's Bar near the Curva Sud, popular with Atalanta supporters on matchdays. A slightly less crowded alternative to Villa Sport Cafe in the final 30-60 minutes before kickoff.

Entry notes: Open to all fans. Good option if Villa Sport Cafe is too packed.

Bars along Via Borgo Santa Caterina

Along the 30-minute approach walk from city centre to stadium

Atmosphere: Neighbourhood bars, Relaxed, Pre-match build-up

Via Borgo Santa Caterina is the main fan artery from central Bergamo to the New Balance Arena. Multiple bars and cafes line this street and fill with supporters on matchdays. A good option if you prefer a more relaxed pre-match atmosphere further from the stadium, with more time to grab a drink before walking the final stretch.

Entry notes: All home fan territory. No designated away bar - visiting fans travelling alone should be aware of the strongly local character of the area.

💡

Pre-Match Strategy

  • Via Borgo Santa Caterina is the best approach for a relaxed pre-match build-up - grab a drink at one of the bars along the way and walk the final stretch to the stadium
  • Villa Sport Cafe and Queen's Bar are the closest options to the gates but get very crowded in the final hour. Arrive early or pick a bar further along the street
  • Away supporters should be aware that bars around the New Balance Arena are strongly home fan territory. Low-key and respectful is the right approach - Atalanta's ultras are known for their intense culture

Matchday Traditions and Atmosphere

Pre-Match Build-Up

Via Borgo Santa Caterina is the main artery for Atalanta matchdays. This long street leads directly to the stadium and fills with fans from early afternoon for big games, with bars and cafes spilling onto the pavement. Supporters gather around the stadium at Queen's Bar, Villa Sport Cafe, and Fuorigioco in the hours before kickoff. The Nerazzurri colours of black and blue are everywhere, and the atmosphere is local and unfiltered - Bergamo is a compact city and matchday feels like a neighbourhood event rather than a commercial spectacle.

Inside the New Balance Arena

The Curva Nord is home to the Curva Nord 1907, Atalanta's ultra group formed in the early 2000s under the leadership of Claudio 'Il Bocia' Galimberti. The group unified previously fragmented ultra factions and today produces some of the loudest, most coordinated support in Serie A. The Curva Nord can seat over 9,000 following its renovation in 2019. Flares, coordinated choreography, and a wall of noise from the north end are standard for big fixtures. Away from the Curva, the stadium has a tight, enclosed feel that amplifies the sound. The compact size makes even routine Serie A fixtures feel intense.

Post-Match

After the final whistle, fans return to Via Borgo Santa Caterina and the bars around the stadium, or head back towards Bergamo's lower town (Citta Bassa) for dinner. The historic upper town (Citta Alta), reached by funicular from Viale Vittorio Emanuele II, has atmospheric restaurants and wine bars for a post-match meal. ATB Bus 9 gets busy for 15-20 minutes after the final whistle as the stadium empties - walking a stop or two from the ground helps avoid the rush.

💡

Visitor Tips

  • Arrive at least 45-60 minutes early. Gate queues and security screening at the New Balance Arena can be slow, particularly for Champions League and top Serie A fixtures
  • The Curva Nord produces the best atmosphere but is ultra territory. The Tribuna Rinascimento (main stand) offers good sightlines for first-time visitors
  • Matchday roads around the stadium close two hours before kickoff and do not reopen until 30 minutes after the final whistle. Bus 9 is the only way in or out during that window
