We cover every path into the stadium: official club channels, officially authorized hospitality partners, and vetted resellers. Each evaluated honestly with realistic expectations so you know exactly what to expect.

Official 1. FC Köln Tickets

Face Value

The RheinEnergieSTADION holds around 50,000 fans, and 1. FC Köln make roughly 15,000 day tickets available per home match. FC-Mitglied membership unlocks the advance sale and an Early Bird round, but for most Bundesliga fixtures, non-members can buy tickets too - once the membership phases are complete. German tickets are personalized: your name is on the ticket and ID may be checked at the gate.

Quick reality check for visitors:
  • Derby against Borussia Monchengladbach (the Rhine Derby) and fixtures against Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund: High demand, advance sale goes fast for members - use the official Ticketborse or hospitality if you miss it
  • Mid-table Bundesliga opponents: Good availability in general sale once member phases conclude. The 50,000-capacity ground means more tickets reach open sale than at smaller venues
  • DFB-Pokal and lower-profile home matches: Best targets for international visitors - easier availability and often no member restriction required
  • Important: All Bundesliga tickets are name-personalized. Your name is printed on the ticket and identity may be checked at the turnstile against a photo ID
FC-Mitglied membership and the advance sale system:
  • FC-Mitglied membership costs a small annual fee (check fc.de/en/club/membership for current pricing). Members can buy up to 2 tickets in the advance sale per home match
  • Long-standing members (20-plus years) get a separate Early Bird window before standard members - the earliest access available to non-season-ticket holders
  • Members who have held a membership for over 20 years receive priority. For visitors joining specifically to access tickets, standard membership still opens advance sale access from the following month
  • Season ticket holders occupy roughly 35,000 seats, leaving around 15,000 day tickets per match for members and general sale
How the sale process works:
  • Phase 1 - Early Bird (20-plus members only): Opens first, limited allocation of tickets
  • Phase 2 - Member advance sale: Opens to all FC-Mitglied members. Maximum 2 tickets per member per match
  • Phase 3 - General sale: Remaining tickets go on open sale. For popular matches this phase may have limited or no availability
  • Sales open at 10:00 on the published date. A pre-waiting room with pre-authentication applies for high-demand matches to prevent bots
  • Buy at shop.fc.de - the official FC Köln ticket shop
FC Köln official Ticketborse (your backup plan):
  • The Ticketboerse at fcticketboerse.de is the official face-value resale platform, operated with Eventim Fansale (fansale.de)
  • Season ticket holders and day ticket holders who cannot attend can list their tickets here at face value
  • Around 3,000 tickets per match become available through this channel - a significant number for sold-out fixtures
  • Tickets are guaranteed authentic by CTS EVENTIM. Check in the days leading up to the match - availability increases as the date approaches
  • The Eventim Fansale platform (fansale.de/tickets/all/1.-fc-koeln/2507) also carries official resale listings
What's realistically accessible without established membership history:
  • Best targets: DFB-Pokal home matches, Europa League group stage (if applicable), and mid-table Bundesliga opponents in open sale
  • Realistic for most matches: Join as an FC-Mitglied before your trip (membership is effective from the first of the following month) and enter the member advance sale
  • Hard to access: Derby against Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund - use the Ticketboerse or hospitality
  • Our take: At 50,000 capacity, Cologne is more accessible than most Bundesliga clubs. FC-Mitglied membership makes a visit planning significantly easier and costs a small annual fee
Pricing (when you get through):
  • Prices vary by category (standing Stehplatz vs seated tiers) and opponent. Standing terraces are the most affordable option and create the best atmosphere
  • Check shop.fc.de for current pricing per match and seat category
  • Face value is always lower than secondary market - worth pursuing official channels first
💡

FC Köln Ticket Strategy

  • At 50,000 capacity, the RheinEnergieSTADION has more day tickets than most Bundesliga grounds. FC-Mitglied membership opens the advance sale and is worth getting for any serious visit
  • The official Ticketboerse (fcticketboerse.de) releases around 3,000 face-value tickets per match as season ticket holders return unused tickets. Check from about a week before matchday and again the day before
  • German tickets are name-personalized. Bring a matching photo ID to the gate. Buying from unofficial third parties carries a real risk of entry denial - only use the official Ticketboerse or Fansale for resale

When to Choose Hospitality

  • Rhine Derby against Borussia Monchengladbach and big Bundesliga fixtures against Bayern or Dortmund - hospitality is the most reliable route when official tickets sell out fast

  • Business sections offer the best views in the stadium for a corporate or special occasion visit

1. FC Köln Ticket Marketplaces

Most Available

Secondary market platforms with availability for sold-out matches. Given the strong ID personalization enforcement at Bundesliga grounds, use established platforms with buyer protection and avoid informal resellers.

Ticket resale platforms operate independently of 1. FC Köln and Matchday Guide. Clubs reserve the right to refuse entry for unauthorized tickets. All purchases are at your own risk. We recommend choosing vendors with buyer protection and checking ratings on Trustpilot.

Marketplace Safety Tips for Bundesliga

  • German Bundesliga tickets are highly personalized - your name must match the name on the ticket and your photo ID at the gate. Eventim Fansale is the only platform that guarantees name-matched authentic German resale tickets
  • The official Ticketboerse (fcticketboerse.de) and Fansale (fansale.de) are the safest resale options - always check these before using third-party marketplaces
  • For Rhine Derby and Bayern fixtures, prices on secondary markets spike significantly. Hospitality is often better value for guaranteed premium access

Cologne Hotel Strategy for FC Köln Matches

  • Stay in the Altstadt or near the Dom for the best combination: pre-match pubs within walking distance and KVB Linie 1 for the 16-minute ride to the stadium
  • Book well in advance for Rhine Derby (Monchengladbach) and Bayern Munich fixtures - Cologne hotels fill quickly and matchday prices spike significantly
  • KVB day tickets cover the full journey to the stadium. Buy at machines on the platform - single tickets and day passes are the most practical options for visitors

Getting to RheinEnergieSTADION

KVB Stadtbahn Linie 1 is the recommended route to the RheinEnergieSTADION. The tram runs directly to a dedicated stop at the stadium from Neumarkt in the city center, taking around 16 minutes. KVB operates additional capacity services on matchdays, and the connection from Cologne Hauptbahnhof is straightforward. Linie 7 also reaches the area, stopping at Stuttgenhof - a short walk south of the stadium.

Stadtbahn (KVB Linie 1) - Recommended

KVB - Kolner Verkehrs-Betriebe

Rheinenergie-Stadion (dedicated stadium stop)

Around 8-minute walk from the stop to the stadium gates (approximately 555 metres) | Linie 1 | Linie 1 runs east-west across Cologne and terminates near Weiden-West to the west. From the city center, board at Neumarkt, Dom/Hbf, or Rudolfplatz. The stop is called 'Rheinenergie-Stadion' - take any westbound Linie 1 service toward Weiden. KVB runs extra trams before and after FC Koln home matches.

Journey time: Around 16 minutes from Neumarkt to the stadium stop. Around 18-20 minutes from Cologne Hauptbahnhof.
Frequency: Every 7-8 minutes on matchdays, with additional capacity services on major match days.
Cost: Standard KVB single ticket or day pass - check kvb.koeln for current fares.

Tips:

  • Board at Neumarkt for the most central city-center connection. The stop is a major interchange and easy to find
  • Arrive at the stop at least 45 minutes before kickoff - the trams fill up in the final 20 minutes before the match
  • After the final whistle, Linie 1 runs back to the city center frequently. Allow 10-15 minutes for the initial crowd to thin before boarding if you prefer more space

Stadtbahn (KVB Linie 7) - Alternative

KVB - Kolner Verkehrs-Betriebe

Stuttgenhof

Short walk south to the stadium - verify current walking time via Google Maps as construction may affect routes | Linie 7 | Linie 7 runs south of the RheinEnergieSTADION and stops at Stuttgenhof. This is a useful alternative if Linie 1 is crowded or if you are coming from the southern or eastern part of Cologne.

Journey time: Varies depending on boarding point. Check KVB journey planner at kvb.koeln for exact times.
Frequency: Regular service, with additional trams on matchdays.
Cost: Standard KVB fare.

Tips:

  • Less crowded than Linie 1 on matchdays - a useful alternative if the Neumarkt trams are packed
  • Useful for visitors staying in the southern part of Cologne

S-Bahn (Regional) via Koln-Weiden West

Deutsche Bahn S-Bahn Rhine-Ruhr

Koln-Weiden West

Transfer to KVB Linie 1 at Weiden West for the stadium - Linie 1 is connected to the S-Bahn rail network here | S12, S19 | S12 and S19 S-Bahn services serve Koln-Weiden West station. From there, transfer to KVB Linie 1 (eastbound, direction city center or stadium). This connection is useful for visitors arriving from Dusseldorf, Aachen, or the surrounding Rhine region by regional train.

Journey time: Around 15 minutes from Cologne Hauptbahnhof to Koln-Weiden West on S12/S19, then transfer to Linie 1.
Frequency: Regular S-Bahn service, roughly every 20-30 minutes depending on the line.
Cost: Standard Deutsche Bahn / VRS regional fare. Day tickets valid on KVB connections.

Tips:

  • This route is most useful for day-trippers arriving from the Rhine-Ruhr region rather than visitors based in central Cologne
  • The KVB and S-Bahn use the same VRS fare zones - a single VRS day ticket typically covers the full journey

Pre-Match Pubs for 1. FC Köln Matches

FC Koln fans gather both near the stadium in Mungersdorf and in the city center, with KVB Linie 1 connecting both areas. Gaffel Kolsch is the official club beer and is served throughout the stadium - pre-match Gaffel is a Cologne matchday tradition. No rival territory concerns in Cologne itself (Borussia Monchengladbach is based 45 km away).

Gaffel am Dom

City center next to Cologne Cathedral, 16-minute tram ride to stadium on Linie 1

Atmosphere: Traditional Cologne brewery, loud and busy on matchdays, 700-seat capacity over three levels

The most prominent FC Koln pre-match venue in the city center. Gaffel has been the official Kolsch partner of 1. FC Koln since 2002, and this is their flagship brewery. All FC Koln home matches broadcast live - it fills entirely on big matchdays. The ground floor brewery hall, upper Dom-Stube (with Cathedral views), and cellar level all open for major fixtures. Traditional Cologne dishes (Himmel un Aad, Rheinischer Sauerbraten) served alongside Gaffel Kolsch.

Entry notes: Open to all fans. Reservations strongly recommended on matchdays - the 700-seat brewery fills completely for FC Koln fixtures. Book at gaffelamdom.de/en/reservation/. No-shows are common; book and show up.

Stadtwaldgarten

Walking distance from RheinEnergieSTADION, in the Mungersdorf district near the stadium

Atmosphere: Traditional beer garden pub, local fan clubs, matchday atmosphere

A long-standing FC Koln matchday institution in Mungersdorf, operating from the same site on Aachener Strasse since 1948. Fan clubs including Sektion Suff, 12. Mann, and Cologne Power East Belgium gather here before home games. Run by the Lier family since 2023, continuing the same tradition. Serves food (Spanish tapas and steaks) alongside Gaffel Kolsch.

Entry notes: Open to all fans. Closes later than some pubs on matchdays. Tuesday-Saturday and Sunday afternoons - check opening hours on matchday as times may vary.

Gottes Grune Wiese

Belgisches Viertel (Belgian Quarter), city center - around 16-minute tram ride on Linie 1 to stadium

Atmosphere: FC Koln football pub in the Belgian Quarter, no reservations on matchdays, busy from early evening

Consistently cited as one of Cologne's best FC Koln matchday pubs - corner pub on Bismarckstrasse with Sion Kolsch on tap, foosball tables, and a foosball league. Shows all Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League matches. When FC Koln play, the crowd is loud and engaged. The Belgian Quarter location means a different crowd from the tourist-heavy Altstadt spots - more local regulars.

Entry notes: Open to all fans. No table reservations on matchdays - arrive early on big fixture dates. Saturday from 14:30, Sunday from 15:00.

Thiebolds Eck

Neumarkt city center, 16-minute tram ride on Linie 1 to stadium

Atmosphere: Traditional corner pub, FC Koln supporter gathering point, lively on matchdays

A traditional Cologne Kneipe at Neumarkt with decades of history as an FC Koln meeting point. Closed at end of 2024 due to noise disputes but reopened in April 2025 under new operators Reiner Wilkens and Matthias Langsfeld (who also run Reissdorf am Griechenmarkt). Renovated interior but preserved traditional pub character. Central location near the Neumarkt Linie 1 stop makes it a convenient last stop before the tram to the stadium.

Entry notes: Open to all fans. Gets busy in the 60-90 minutes before kickoff. The Neumarkt Linie 1 stop is a very short walk. Verify current opening hours after reopening - weekdays until 22:00, weekends until midnight.

💡

Matchday Pub Strategy

  • Gaffel am Dom books up on major matchdays. Reserve at gaffelamdom.de/en/reservation/ - the online booking form is the most reliable route. Arrive early regardless as a buffer against your reserved time being busy
  • The Stadtwaldgarten in Mungersdorf is the closest traditional pub to the stadium and gives you a short walk to the gates. Good option if you are already in the Mungersdorf area or want to avoid the city center pre-match
  • Gottes Grune Wiese in the Belgian Quarter takes no reservations on matchdays - get there at least 90 minutes before kickoff on big fixture dates. More local crowd than the tourist-facing breweries near the Dom
  • Neumarkt area pubs (including Thiebolds Eck and bars around the square) work well as a pre-match base before jumping on Linie 1 to the stadium - the stop is a 2-minute walk from the square

Matchday Traditions and Atmosphere

Pre-Match Build-Up

Fans gather in central Cologne hours before kickoff - the Gaffel am Dom near Cologne Cathedral, Thiebolds Eck at Neumarkt, and Gottes Grune Wiese in the Belgian Quarter are all well-established FC Koln gathering points in the city center. All three are on or close to KVB Linie 1, which runs directly to the stadium. Closer to the RheinEnergieSTADION, the Stadtwaldgarten on Aachener Strasse is a long-standing matchday pub in Mungersdorf, with fan clubs including Sektion Suff and 12. Mann gathering there before home games. The Gaffel brewery has been the official Kolsch partner of FC Koln since 2002, and Gaffel Kolsch is served throughout the stadium. For the first home match of each season, the club holds an ecumenical service at Kolner Dom (Cologne Cathedral) - a tradition running since 2014/15, where thousands of fans fill the cathedral hall and sing 'Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kolle' to the cathedral organ.

Inside RheinEnergieSTADION

The Sudkurve (south stand) is home to FC Koln's organized supporter culture. The two main ultra groups are Wilde Horde 96 (one of Germany's oldest ultra groups, founded in 1996) and the Coloniacs, based in block S4. The club anthem 'Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kolle' by the Hohner band plays shortly before kickoff - sung to the tune of the Scottish folk song 'The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond' but reimagined in Kolsch dialect. The Sudkurve and much of the stadium sings along with scarves raised. Fans also regularly chant 'Mir sin kolsche Junge' (We are Cologne boys). Look for Hennes IX, the club's live billy goat mascot, who is paraded around the pitch before kickoff and at half-time - a tradition that began in 1950 when a circus director gifted the original Hennes to the club at a carnival session. Standing terraces (Stehplatz) are available in the Sudkurve and produce the loudest sections.

Post-Match

After the final whistle, most fans head back into the city on KVB Linie 1 toward Neumarkt and the old town. The Gaffel am Dom and bars in the Altstadt remain busy late into the evening on matchdays. Avoid Linie 1 in the first 15-20 minutes after the final whistle if you prefer not to queue - the Stadtwaldgarten or the smaller pubs around Mungersdorf offer a short wait before the rush subsides.

💡

Visitor Tips

  • Arrive at least 45-60 minutes before kickoff. Security and turnstile queues at the RheinEnergieSTADION can slow on busy matchdays
  • KVB Linie 1 runs additional capacity services on matchdays. The journey from Neumarkt to the RheinEnergieSTADION stop takes around 16 minutes and runs roughly every 7-8 minutes on matchday schedules
  • Gaffel am Dom near the Dom requires a reservation on matchdays - the 700-seat brewery fills well before kickoff. Book at gaffelamdom.de/en/reservation/
  • If attending the first home match of the season, the club holds an ecumenical service at Kolner Dom before kickoff - a free, open tradition where thousands of fans fill the cathedral and sing the club anthem to the organ
