Official Olympique Lyonnais Tickets

Face Value

Groupama Stadium holds 59,186 fans, giving OL one of the largest club stadiums in France. The official ticket platform is billetterie.ol.fr. Unlike many top European clubs, OL does not require a paid membership for general sale - a free account is enough for most Ligue 1 matches. The MyOL loyalty programme provides priority access for season ticket holders and subscribers.

Quick reality check for visitors:
  • Le Classique (vs PSG) and Olympico (vs Marseille): Very high demand. Season subscribers have priority. Hospitality or verified marketplaces are your realistic fallback
  • Mid-table Ligue 1 fixtures: Available through general sale with a free account on billetterie.ol.fr. The 59,186 capacity helps significantly
  • European matches (Europa League, Conference League): Check early - OL allocates portions of the ground to away fans, reducing home capacity
  • Lower-demand fixtures and cup ties: Good general sale availability; often purchasable up to the week of the match
OL's ticketing system:
  • Tickets are sold through billetterie.ol.fr. Create a free account to access general sale for most Ligue 1 fixtures - no paid membership required
  • The MyOL loyalty programme and season subscriptions (abonnements) give priority access to high-demand matches
  • Season ticket holders (abonnes) have automatic access to every home league match as part of their subscription
  • Tickets are digital - download to the Groupama Stadium app or print your e-ticket via your OL account
How the sale process works:
  • Season ticket holders access their seat automatically each match
  • Subscribers and MyOL members receive priority access windows before general sale opens
  • General sale opens after priority windows close - typically several days to a week before the match for routine fixtures
  • For Le Classique and high-demand European nights, tickets rarely reach general sale. Start early with a free account and consider alternatives
Important for international visitors:
  • billetterie.ol.fr accepts international credit cards and offers an English-language interface
  • Tickets are personal and an ID may be checked at the gate for certain fixtures
  • P1 Travel is an authorized ticket agent for OL offering ticket and hotel packages designed for international visitors
  • The stadium is in Decines-Charpieu, not Lyon city centre - factor in the tram journey from central Lyon when planning your day
💡

OL Ticket Strategy

  • For most Ligue 1 matches, a free account on billetterie.ol.fr is all you need. Create the account before the season starts so you are ready when tickets go on sale
  • The 59,186-capacity stadium means routine fixtures regularly have good availability. Aim for mid-table opponents if you want a straightforward purchase
  • For Le Classique (vs PSG) and the Olympico (vs Marseille), look at P1 Travel packages or verified secondary market platforms. These sell out in priority windows

Marketplace Safety Tips

  • For most Ligue 1 fixtures at Groupama Stadium, official general sale is available with a free account - try official channels before turning to secondary markets
  • OL may check ID at the gate for high-profile fixtures. Ensure your chosen platform handles name changes or provides clear documentation
  • Buy as early as possible for Le Classique and European matches - prices rise steeply as the match approaches

Lyon Hotel Strategy for OL Matches

  • Staying in central Lyon (Presqu'ile or Vieux-Lyon) gives the best access to restaurants, pubs, and the city's UNESCO-listed heritage. The tram to the stadium takes around 30-40 minutes
  • The Kopster Hotel is the only option that puts you within a 5-minute walk of the turnstiles. Worth considering for late kickoffs when you want to avoid late transport back to the city
  • Book well in advance for Le Classique and Olympico fixtures - Lyon hotels fill for these matches, and prices increase sharply

Journey time: Around 30-40 minutes from central Lyon (Part-Dieu or Bellecour) to Decines OL Vallee
Frequency: Tram T7 runs every 15 minutes during standard service. Enhanced frequency on matchdays with additional services laid on by SYTRAL Mobilites.

  • From Bellecour or Hotel de Ville: Same route - Metro A east to Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie, then T7
  • On matchdays, board early - the tram fills up from around 60-75 minutes before kickoff
  • After the match, wait 20-30 minutes if possible. The tram stop at Decines OL Vallee gets congested immediately after the final whistle

Pre-Match Bars for Olympique Lyonnais Matches

Because Groupama Stadium is a 30-40 minute tram ride from Lyon city centre, most fans spend matchday in the Presqu'ile or Vieux-Lyon before heading east for kickoff. Two options exist: drink in central Lyon then take the tram, or arrive early at Decines and use the OL Vallee leisure complex adjacent to the stadium, which has several bars and restaurants open on matchdays. Head to the tram from the city around 90 minutes before kickoff.

The Smoking Dog

Vieux-Lyon (Rue Lainerie, 5th arrondissement), 35-minute journey to stadium

Atmosphere: English pub, sports screens, football memorabilia, loyal local following

English-style pub open since 1995, located in the Vieux-Lyon old town. Walls lined with football memorabilia and 11 draught beers on tap. Regular Tuesday pub quiz and strong local following. One of the most consistently recommended sports pubs in Lyon for watching Ligue 1. Gets busy in the hours before evening kickoffs.

Entry notes: Open to all. No restrictions on matchdays. The terrace fills quickly in good weather.

Wallace Snug

Presqu'ile (2 rue Thomassin, 2nd arrondissement), 30-minute journey to stadium

Atmosphere: Scottish pub, whisky selection, sports screens, terrace

The Presqu'ile branch of the Wallace pub group, located in the gastronomic heart of the city near Place Bellecour. Broadcasts football and rugby on screens, with a large heated terrace open year-round. Strong whisky selection and international beers. Convenient position for the Metro A journey to Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie. Note: the Wallace Pub Vaise (8 rue de la Claire, 9th arrondissement) is a separate larger location with 16 beers on tap and two giant screens if you are based in that area.

Entry notes: Open to all. Evening opening (from 4pm weekdays, 3pm Saturday). Easy metro access from Bellecour.

Ninkasi OL Vallee

Decines-Charpieu, adjacent to Groupama Stadium - 5-minute walk to turnstiles

Atmosphere: Craft beer bar, food, music, stadium-adjacent, part of OL Vallee leisure complex

The main bar option for fans who travel directly to the stadium area. Part of the OL Vallee leisure complex at the foot of Groupama Stadium. Broadcasts OL matches, offers craft beers and burgers, and is busy with fans on matchdays. One of three official OL 'Comptoirs Rouge et Bleu' bars at OL Vallee (alongside Au Fut et a Mesure and Garrison Tavern). Useful if you want to arrive early to Decines rather than drink in the city centre.

Entry notes: Open to all. Part of the official OL supporter bar network. Can be busy from 1.5-2 hours before kickoff on matchdays.

💡

Pre-Match Strategy

  • City centre option: drink in Vieux-Lyon or Presqu'ile, then take Metro A from Bellecour or Part-Dieu to Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie, and connect to the T7 tram. Leave the city at least 90 minutes before kickoff
  • Stadium-adjacent option: go directly to Decines and use the OL Vallee bars (Ninkasi, Au Fut et a Mesure) on the stadium esplanade. Easier post-match logistics but less of central Lyon's character
  • OL operates an official 'Comptoirs Rouge et Bleu' network of around 15 bars across Lyon that broadcast matches with club-themed atmosphere. Check ol.fr for the current list of participating venues
  • Lyon is a food city. Many visitors combine a match with dinner at a traditional bouchon in the Presqu'ile - book ahead for post-match, as popular spots fill quickly on OL nights

Matchday Traditions & Atmosphere

Pre-Match Build-Up

Groupama Stadium is in Decines-Charpieu, 10km east of central Lyon, so most fans spend the early part of matchday in the city before taking the tram out to the ground. The Presqu'ile - Lyon's central peninsula between the Rhone and Saone rivers - has bars and restaurants within easy reach of the metro. OL fans gather at sports pubs in the Vieux-Lyon and Presqu'ile before boarding Metro Line A to Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie, then the T7 tram to the stadium. The tram fills up around 60-90 minutes before kickoff. Fans who prefer to go directly to the ground can use the bars at the OL Vallee complex adjacent to the stadium, which the club runs as part of its official supporter bar network. The club also operates a fan zone with food trucks on the stadium esplanade from around two hours before kickoff, which serves as an outdoor gathering point before gates open.

Inside Groupama Stadium

Groupama Stadium opened in January 2016, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring the first goal in a 4-1 win over Troyes. The enclosed roof amplifies crowd noise significantly. The Virage Nord (North Stand) is the heartbeat of OL's support, led by the Bad Gones (founded 1987) - the club's historic ultra group who have animated the North Stand for nearly four decades with coordinated tifos and continuous singing. In 2023, Bloc 405 Ferveur Nord joined to animate the upper third tier of the Virage Nord, expanding the singing section upward. The Virage Sud houses Lyon 1950 (founded 2009), the South Stand ultra group with over 2,300 members, who create a call-and-response with the north. The most recognizable OL anthem is Le Chant des Canuts - a 19th-century song of Lyon's silk weavers, adapted as the club's anthem - which unites all sections of the ground on big match nights.

The Olympico (vs Marseille)

The fixture between OL and Olympique de Marseille is known as the Olympico and is historically one of France's most intense club rivalries. Both clubs are former Champions of Europe - OL through their seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles, OM through their 1993 European Cup win. Tickets for the Olympico rarely reach general sale. Le Classique (vs PSG) is the other major fixture that sells out immediately. Both matches see the Virage Nord at its loudest and most organized, with the most elaborate tifo preparations of the season.

Post-Match

After the final whistle, trams back to Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie fill quickly and queues build around the tram stop. Wait 20-30 minutes after the final whistle if you want to avoid the peak crush. Most fans head back into central Lyon for dinner - the Presqu'ile and Vieux-Lyon have dozens of restaurants open late. Lyon's bouchons, the city's traditional eateries, are busy on matchday evenings but worth the wait.

💡

Visitor Tips

  • Take the tram at least 90 minutes before kickoff. The T7 from Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie fills up, and the queues at the tram stop after the match can be slow
  • Lyon is UNESCO-listed as a gastronomic capital. Match trips work well combined with dinner at a Presqu'ile bouchon - book the restaurant before the match, not after
  • The Bad Gones (Virage Nord) produce the most organized atmosphere in the ground for big matches. For a first visit, the Tribune Jonage or Virage Sud (Lyon 1950) sections give good views with good atmosphere and less intensity than the ultra blocks
