How to Buy Panathinaikos Tickets

Official Panathinaikos Tickets
Two things overseas fans must know before planning a Panathinaikos trip. First, for the 2026-27 season the club has moved its home matches to the Athens Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in Marousi, not the historic Leoforos ground. Second, Greek football uses a government-run digital ticketing system. Every ticket lives in the Gov.gr Wallet app, and you show a QR code from that app to get in. There are no paper tickets and no box-office collection.
Quick reality check for visitors:
- • The Olympiacos derby (Derby of the Eternal Enemies), plus PAOK and AEK: extremely high demand, tickets go through member priority and sell out fast. Official channels or HelloTickets are your realistic routes
- • Mid-table Super League fixtures: generally available to the public through the official Ticketmaster.gr platform without a member card, once single-match sales open
- • European nights at OAKA (Europa League / Conference League): strong demand but the Olympic Stadium's large capacity helps availability
- • Panathinaikos also list a fan-card requirement that is waived for some matches. Check the match listing before you buy
How the ticket system works:
- • Season tickets are sold only to active members of the Panathinaikos amateur sports club through their member-card code. This is aimed at locals, not visitors
- • Single-match tickets for the public are sold through the official platform at ticketmaster.gr/paofc-ww and linked from pao.gr
- • All tickets are name-personalized. You register the ticket to a person and show ID matching the ticket at the gate
- • For high-demand matches a Panathinaikos fan card may be required. For many league games it is waived. The requirement is stated on each match's sale page
Buying as an overseas visitor (the important part):
- • You do not need a Greek AMKA (social security number). On the Ticketmaster.gr checkout, change the nationality field to your own country and the AMKA field disappears, then enter your passport or ID number instead
- • After purchase you receive an email with a unique code. You then download the Gov.gr Wallet app and add the ticket to it, using the same passport number, within a few days of purchase
- • Entry to the stadium is allowed only by scanning the QR code generated in the Gov.gr Wallet app. Set this up before matchday, not at the turnstile
- • The official site is available in English and the club's ticketing team can be reached at ticketing@pao.gr for overseas-visitor questions
Pricing and where to sit:
- • Super League Greece ticket prices are low by Western European standards, and OAKA's size keeps face-value seats available for most league games
- • The Gate 13 end behind the goal is the loudest section and is dominated by the organized ultras. For a first visit, a side stand is the easier, calmer choice
- • Face value through the official platform is always cheaper than resale. Only turn to marketplaces when official sales are gone
Panathinaikos Ticket Strategy
- Set up the Gov.gr Wallet app and add your ticket the moment you buy. Entry is refused without the QR code from that app, and there is no paper fallback
- When buying on Ticketmaster.gr, switch the nationality field away from Greece so the AMKA box disappears, then use your passport number
- For a routine league game you can usually buy as a member of the public. For the Olympiacos, PAOK or AEK matches, plan on official member-priority selling out and line up HelloTickets or a premium seat early
Panathinaikos Official Hospitality & Packages
Panathinaikos do not currently run a dedicated third-party hospitality-package program for football the way many Western European clubs do. For 2026-27 at the Olympic Stadium, the most reliable premium option is booking better-located seating directly through the club's official platform. A fuller hospitality product is expected to arrive with the club's new Votanikos stadium, which is under construction and scheduled to open for the 2027-28 season.

Metro Line 1 (the green line) runs straight from the city centre to the two stations that serve the complex. Allow extra time on matchdays as the stations get busy before kickoff and immediately after the final whistle.

• Neratziotissa
Around a 15-minute walk to the stadium, next to the Mall Athens | Line 1 (Green), Athens Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) | The next station down, also on Line 1 and an interchange with the suburban railway. A useful alternative that is often less crushed than Irini after the match. It sits beside The Mall Athens shopping centre.
Journey time: Roughly 20 to 25 minutes from the central Athens stations on Line 1 (for example from Omonia or Monastiraki) directly to Irini. No line change needed.
Frequency: Frequent services through the day, with extra trains around big matches.
Cost: Standard Athens integrated transport ticket. Buy from machines at any metro station or use a contactless Athena Ticket card.
Tips:
- Line 1 is the green line and runs through central Athens (Monastiraki, Omonia, Victoria), so most visitors can reach the stadium without changing trains
- After the match, walking one extra stop from Irini to Neratziotissa can mean a less packed platform, and Neratziotissa also has the suburban railway
- Validate your ticket before boarding. Inspectors do check, and fines for travelling unvalidated are steep

- There is little shade or shelter on the approach, so plan for the weather, Athens is very hot in late summer
- The complex is spread out. Follow signage for the Olympic Stadium specifically, not the arena or aquatic centre
Pre-Match Bars for Panathinaikos Matches
Important safety note first: Athens is split between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos. Panathinaikos territory is Athens proper, especially Ampelokipi and the central districts, while Olympiacos are based in the port city of Piraeus. Never take Panathinaikos colours into Piraeus, and keep them discreet around the derby. Practical note: the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) is in Marousi, a business and shopping district with little in the way of a football-bar scene right at the ground. The club's traditional fan bars are back in the Ampelokipi heartland around the historic Leoforos stadium, so most visiting fans drink in central Athens or Ampelokipi and take Line 1 up to the match.

A tiny old-school Athenian oinomageirio (wine-and-cooking house) named after the trifylli, the Panathinaikos clover, tucked behind the historic Leoforos stadium. Running since the early 1960s, its walls carry decades of Panathinaikos history and it serves barrel wine and simple home-style mezedes. This is fan culture and Greek food rather than a big-screen sports bar, and it is little known to tourists.
Entry notes: Small and traditional, so it fills quickly and is best for an early, relaxed pre-match meal in the heartland before heading up to OAKA. Open to visitors.
Pre-Match Bar Strategy
- There is no real football-bar cluster at OAKA itself. Drink in central Athens or the Ampelokipi heartland, then take Line 1 (green) to Irini
- The Ampelokipi bars around the old Leoforos ground are the authentic Panathinaikos scene, even though the matches are now up at OAKA
- Keep colours discreet on public transport, and never head toward Piraeus in Panathinaikos green, that is Olympiacos territory
Matchday Traditions & Atmosphere
Pre-Match Build-Up
Panathinaikos are the green-and-white of Athens, and their badge is the trifylli, the shamrock or three-leaf clover you will see on everything from scarves to tavern signs. The club's spiritual heartland is Ampelokipi, around the historic Leoforos ground on Alexandras Avenue, where the club shop, ticket office and long-standing fan bars still sit. For 2026-27 the actual matches are up at the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in Marousi, so a typical matchday means gathering in the Ampelokipi heartland or central Athens first, then riding Metro Line 1 north to the ground. Scarf and shirt sellers set up near the stadium approaches on bigger nights.
Gate 13 and the Green Roar
The heart of the support is Gate 13 (Thyra 13), founded on 19 November 1966 and recognized as the oldest organized supporters' group in Greece. They occupy the loud end behind the goal, driving the chanting, flags and pyrotechnic displays that Panathinaikos crowds are known for. The renovated OAKA has produced strong atmospheres for the club's big European and derby nights. If you want the full-volume experience, that is the Gate 13 end. If you are bringing family or want a calmer view, pick a side stand.
The Derby of the Eternal Enemies (vs Olympiacos)
Panathinaikos versus Olympiacos is the Derby of the Eternal Enemies, the defining rivalry of Greek football and one of the fiercest in Europe. It splits the city and the country: Panathinaikos are rooted in Athens proper, while Olympiacos are the club of the port city of Piraeus. The match carries huge weight and comes with heavy security, strict segregation and, in some seasons, restrictions or bans on away fans. Tickets rarely reach the open public. This is a hospitality-or-official-priority fixture, not a walk-up.
Post-Match
After the final whistle at OAKA, most fans stream back to Irini or Neratziotissa station for Line 1 into the centre, which gets busy for the first 20 to 30 minutes. Many head back toward central Athens, Ampelokipi or the bars of Exarchia, Koukaki and Monastiraki for food and drinks. Athens dining runs late, so a post-match meal at 11pm is completely normal.
Visitor Tips
- OAKA is in Marousi, well north of the tourist centre. Budget around 25 minutes on Line 1 from the middle of Athens and leave early for big matches
- Gate 13 behind the goal is the loudest but most intense area. Side stands are the better first-visit choice
- Avoid Panathinaikos colours anywhere near Piraeus, which is Olympiacos territory, and vice versa. Keep colours discreet on public transport around the derby
Stadium Tours
Panathinaikos do not currently offer a dedicated club stadium tour. For 2026-27 the team is a tenant at the state-owned Olympic Stadium (OAKA), which does not run a Panathinaikos-branded behind-the-scenes tour, and the club's own new stadium in Votanikos is still under construction. The historic Leoforos ground (Apostolos Nikolaidis) remains the club's spiritual home and still houses the club shop and offices, but there is no regular public tour product to book online.
