Matchday Traditions & Atmosphere
Pre-Match Scene
Molineux sits right on the northern edge of Wolverhampton city centre, a short walk from the shops and the railway station, so the build-up spreads across town in gold and black. The Leaping Wolf on Waterloo Road, right by the ground, fills early and is the main home-fan hub. City-centre pubs like the Posada and the Great Western get busy a couple of hours before kickoff. Statues of club legends Billy Wright and Stan Cullis stand outside the stadium, along with a statue of former owner Sir Jack Hayward. Fans gather around them for photos on the walk in.
Inside Molineux
The South Bank, officially the Sir Jack Hayward Stand, is the single-tier end behind the goal and the loudest part of the ground. Much of it has been converted to a large safe-standing (rail seat) area, one of the biggest in English football. Wherever you sit you will hear "Hi Ho Wolverhampton" roll around the stands. Away fans are housed in the lower tier of the Steve Bull Stand, with a typical allocation of around 2,750. The Steve Bull Stand is named after the striker who scored more than 300 goals for the club, and the Billy Wright Stand runs along the other side.
After the Match
Most fans drift back into the city centre, where the pubs stay busy for an hour or so after the final whistle. It is about a 15-minute walk back to Wolverhampton station for trains and the West Midlands Metro tram. Give the platforms a few minutes to clear if the tram is packed.
